Trump Targets Apple, EU with Tariffs
Trump targets Apple & EU with new tariffs over manufacturing & trade.

President Donald Trump has issued sharp warnings, threatening substantial new tariffs against both technology giant Apple and the entire European Union over manufacturing and trade disputes.
Via social media, Trump declared a potential 25% tax on imported iPhones. This penalty would apply if Apple continues manufacturing its products for the American market overseas, specifically mentioning production outside the United States in places like India, contrary to his long-stated expectation for domestic assembly.
Separately, Trump targeted the EU with a proposed 50% tariff on all goods. He accused the bloc of exploiting the U.S. through various trade barriers, including taxes, penalties, and legal actions, asserting these practices have made negotiations challenging.
Trump’s stance aligns with his “America First” economic agenda, emphasizing domestic job creation and challenging what he views as unfair trade imbalances. He specifically cited a substantial annual trade deficit exceeding $250 billion with the European Union, criticizing the lack of progress in ongoing trade discussions.
The proposed 50% tariff on EU imports is set to begin June 1, 2025, as a condition for avoiding the tax is domestic U.S. manufacturing. This threat follows stalled trade talks and previous U.S. duties on certain European goods, underscoring persistent transatlantic trade friction.
